My Digital Identity
Target Audience.

The Audience I would like to reach is the wider YouTube community by creating inspiring and exciting videos that would gain me valuable insight to what my videos are like and what other similar film makers think of what I’m doing with a bit of luck it would also gain me help or potential for collaboration at a future point. I would also like a audience to request films or give me ideas for projects. Insight from peers and other film makers is valuable but what audiences like is key to making watchable and exciting content. Professionally i would need to make my videos accessible as possible and just because I understand a concept fully doesn’t mean an average client or audience member would. So the input from social media is helpful to learning about this.

Content

Content is an important part of your social media platform of choice because it’s your work, what you do and what you’re supposed to be selling. Even if it’s on a non professional basis and just for fun or to gain a following.  A good thing to do is not just upload your pieces and leave them there create a bio. Leaving a biography gives potential clients a sense of your personality and interests which can give ideas of your commitment and work ethic as well as style and ideas. As i’m currently at college on a creative course most of my video work is set by college assignments so I’ve used the work produced to showcase on the selected platform. This is valuable as i have a growing back catalogue available at any point in the future from an early point. It will also be great to mark my progression as a film maker. The style of videos already uploaded is shorts, a short film and a title sequence which is comparable to a music video showing my versatility as a filmmaker. Another key aspect of my media platform is my ability to further enhance my character by favourite(ing) videos I like professional videos or personal and amateur. I think another fun thing to do is favourite music as that is key to defining yourself as a person. I think a social media platform should be personal and slightly relaxed it’s not a hard sell website but a personal presentation of your work

The Social Media Platform

I’d like to choose a social media website to showcase my content. There are many choices, which one I use simply depends on personal preferences. These include who I want to reach, the style of website and the number of people who use the site.

Vimo

Vimo has a great interface and ways of grouping with other similar artists. Although isn’t nearly as popular as YouTube.

YouTube

Extremely popular. widely used by the general internet user.  It also allows external embedding.

I choose this because it already has a wide group of filmmakers and these allow for internet collaboration and gaining contacts quickly.

Although vimo would of allowed for this also it’s harder to gain a following as quickly.

Why do I need a social media platform?

Well simply because it is a great way to showcase yourself as a filmmaker and as the most popular it’s better to reaching a larger audience.

I would also favourite films as I think it’s an important part of being professional showing your personality.

Someone who uses YouTube effectively is uk vlogger Charlie Mcdonell

He presents different style of video making as a form of communication (vloging) something I’m not interested in but as a reference is perfect. He’s not professional but his videos are presented in a near professional way gaining a large following. He’s taken on various projects including some from the RNLI.

He also favourites videos reflecting who he is and what he lieks because personality is important for when being viewed by potential clients.

My digital Identity

Having a creative identity and establishing this is a vital part of being a creative individual and professional. One of the most effective ways to do this is digitally. Most if not all creative individuals have an online presence so they can be found and produce work for clients. Your identity needs to be expressed in such a way that makes you seem interesting, employable and good at what you do. So that people will consider hiring you.

A good way to establish you identity is to first establish who you actually are, what your strengths are and what you are interested in.

Thinking about this I knew straightaway I was interested in films. I know this is where my strengths lie. I have skills in both premiere and final cut. But in creating your creative digital identity you should break away from software as you can essentially create your media on any platform at the request of your employer. I also knew I liked making films with other people.

I also knew I enjoyed viral film producers as their films are raw and intriguing and very accessible to wide audiences.

A way of expressing this would be to create a profile on a social networking site this is a great way to reach a larger audience. As there rival producers do.
